Antonio das Mortes

Ich habe den Kopf des Antonio auf eine Folie gezeichnet. Auf die Folie malte ich gelb das Gesicht und ringsherum den grauen Schatten um den Kopf – sonst nichts. Es war nicht groß, und so hatte ich die Möglichkeit, darunter Stills aus dem Film zu bewegen. Und wo der Kopf sich sozusagen wiederholte, in der gleichen Größe, war der Lebende und der Tote. Das sieht man ja, dass er blutet und dann ins Gras fällt, was natürlich besonders passend war, weil sich so eine Art Kranz ergibt. (Hans Hillmann)

I have drawn Antonio’s head on a transparency. On the transparency I painted a yellow face and a grey shadow around the head — nothing else. It was not very big, and so I had the possibility to move stills from the film underneath it. And where the head repeated itself, so to speak, in the same size, was the living and the dead. You can see that he bleeds and then falls into the grass, which was especially appropriate, of course, because it creates a kind of wreath. (Hans Hillmann)
